Finding Free As A Bird
Looking back, I can’t believe it took me this long. I was raised by a very financially savvy woman who had me working my first excel spreadsheet by the time I was 10 years old. I opened my first business at 17 and owned my fourth by the time I was 30. I’ve always been good with money, money seemed to like me, and opportunities seemed to seek my entrepreneurial spirit out.
I've never really struggled to make it, but I also never managed to hang onto any substantial amount. Debt, on the other hand, was just part of life. I never imagined that you could actually live debt free, particularly in this society. I attempted and failed for my entire twenties to “get out of debt” and finally, after years of different methods, books, budgets, research, apps, and podcasts something clicked. It wasn’t about the money, it was my behavior. Lightbulb! It wasn’t the money that was the problem, it was me. My money mindset needed an overhaul.
It was a tough pill to swallow. To stop being a victim of life and the financial curveballs that were constantly being thrown towards me. I (and my husband) were the issue. The spending over saving, over spending, and continually finding reasons we could justify for going into debt, ick. What we really needed to do to finally kick some of those habits was get to the real issues underneath, the why.
Around the same time that I was gaining control of my finances and the behavior that coincided with it, I was able to see how simplifying one aspect of my life made it bearable to look at all the other aspects of my life that had been hidden, buried, and put on the back burner. I was saying yes to way too much. My life was out of alignment with my goals, my intentions and my values. The more I simplified, the clearer my life and purpose got and the happier and more fulfilled I became.
I am so grateful for where I am, and I want to share it with you. By taking control of your finances, you will find space to explore, express, breathe and grow. Becoming free, simplifying your life, and finding your authentic-self that's been buried under all that stress is my vision for everyone stuck in the cycle our society is facing.
